Meet Laura

Hello everyone! My name is Laura Fischer and I am a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh working towards my Master of Science in Health and Physical Activity. A little bit of background on me, I actually began my professional career in development for higher education after graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 2007. After my husband, Adam, and I had our two young children, I knew I needed to be in a career that I was truly passionate about and one in which I could work towards helping others. That is where graduate school came in. I am a believer in “big picture” wellness and disease prevention through behavioral changes. My greatest passions are nutrition and working to help others through means beyond just physical activity. I will be graduating from the Masters program this April and hope to work in the wellness field. In my free time I love to run and participate in road races. I also very much enjoying cooking and experimenting with new recipes. I am so excited to be working for Nicole at Pillar Wellness this spring. I have a great appreciation for her approach to wellness and the “Five Pillars.” I am looking forward to all the great things to come and to hopefully meeting and working with many of you.

Meet Brandon

Hi all! My name is Brandon Kinneman. I’m a senior in the Exercise Science program at the University of Pittsburgh and will be interning at Pillar Wellness for the Spring. I am very passionate about helping others achieve their wellness goals. Currently, my biggest health and wellness interest is learning more about the benefits of a plant-based diet. I’m also a huge baseball fan, which I still play at the club level at Pitt. I’m an employee at UPMC, where I sit with patients who need constant medical attention. Working here developed the roots of my belief in a holistic approach to wellness. From being with patients, I realized there is more that goes into health and wellness besides just being physically well. Becoming the best, healthiest version of yourself encompasses much more than that. I chose Pillar Wellness because Nicole’s unique, holistic approach to wellness was exactly what I started to believe in through my work experience. Her concept of the “Five Pillars” of wellness was very intriguing to me from the start. I can’t wait to be a part of all the great things to come from Pillar Wellness this Spring!
